Kelly Slater, fresco vincitore del nono titolo mondiale, si aggiudica per la 15esima volta la vittoria come best surfer man ai Surfer Poll and Video Awards.
La 37esima edizione dei Surfer Poll and Video Awards (presented by American Suzuki and Ultimate Wave Tahiti) è stata nel segno di Kelly Slater, nove volte campione del mondo e recentemente incoronato miglior surfista di tutti i tempi da Surfer Magazine. "I Surfer Poll 
Awards rispecchiano veramente i voti dei nostri lettori e questa festa è in loro onore" ha affermato Ricky Irons, pubblicista della rivista Surfer Magazine.
Nella categoria femminile Stephanie Gilmore scalza il primato a Sofia Mulanovich, quest'anno seconda.
Per i Video Awards, i premi più importanti vanno a Still Filthy come "video dell'anno" e Waveriders come "miglior documentario". Simpatica l'esclamazione di Andy Irons una volta appresa la vittoria: "Still Filthy for life!"
Commuovente a fine serata quando Rob Machado e Courtney Conlogue hanno premiato il Dottor Jenkins, fondatore di SurfAid International, come "agente del cambiamento" donandogli 15.000 dollari per la sua missione.
